Procedural Privacy Information for Canadian Homes for Aging in Place Survey on Environmental Well-Being (CHAP-SEW) Site:

We are committed to maintaining the privacy of visitors to the Canadian Homes for Aging in Place Survey on Environmental Well-Being (CHAP-SEW) website. The following summarizes our privacy policy and practices:
  • Any personal information that participants disclose is protected under the terms of the Government of Canada Privacy Act.
  • Information that participants provide as part of this survey is stored on a secure server in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
  • Any identifying information that participants provide will be stored offline in secure storage at the NRC. It will be retained for at most 7 years after the end of the project and used only as necessary for the purpose of this study.
  • Data that participants provide in answer to survey questions will be stored anonymously on secure servers accessible only to authorized personnel. It will be retained indefinitely and may be re-used for other research.
  • We use software that receives and records the Internet Protocol (IP) address of the computer that has contacted the survey. Only general information, such as the IP address and time of visit, is tracked.
  • Information regarding which web pages are being accessed is collected and aggregated. The information is used internally, and only in aggregate form, to manage the site, diagnose technical problems and improve content.
  • Reports about the results of this project will be based on aggregated data so that no individual may be identified.
This research project has been reviewed by the NRC Research Ethics Board (REB) as protocol 2023-71, by the University of Toronto Research Ethics Board under file number 45072, and by the Carleton University Research Ethics Board under file number 119830. Research ethics review seeks to ensure that research projects meet Canadian standards of ethics.
